The next morning we had an 8:30am start to do our first activity, Canyoning. A mix of rappelling (They call it abseiling), ziplining, hiking, plunging into natural pools, floating/swimming down narrow passageways and cascading down chutes.
We got outfitted in wetsuits (including boots), a harness, a life vest, and a helmet. We made our way into the canyon first. We wouldn’t recommend hiking in a wetsuit, that’s for sure. After a couple of ziplines across the canyon we made our way down to the bottom by rappelling down a cliff face. What followed was a 2 hour exhilarating ride of everything “canyoning” with the biggest thrill being jumping into a waterfall pool from 6m above. In the end we were a little bruised, very wet, very cold, but with very big smiles on our face.
In the afternoon we took it a little easier and decided to head up the Gondola. We got some beautiful views of Queenstown at the top.
We then raced our way down part of the mountain (repeatedly) on their luge track. Even though we did it 5 times we were still up for more.
Daryl is not happy that Amy is faster….lol
Back to the hostel and an early night as we had a long day ahead of us tomorrow, Milford Sound.
Until next time…
