Started the morning with a rough time getting up, always fun. (With the time difference we didn’t get to bed until 2:30am) We did find out the hostel would do our laundry for us, so that was plus. No not free, but still.
We made our way into the city. Damage from the earthquake was not so evident in the outskirts but as we got closer to the downtown core we could see that it was both widespread and still far from fixed.
We had the most expensive toast & croissant breakfast ever and then walked around the city.
The Christchurch cathedral was fallen apart in areas and shored up in others. They had an interesting mall made up of connexes called “Re: START CITY MALL” It was actually the first retail area reopened after the earthquake took place.
Bridge of Remembrance
Later in the day we headed outside the city and up the Christchurch Gondola. There were some wonderful views at the top. And sheep!
We went to a restaurant called Fiddlesticks for dinner and shared a tasty duck confit.
Until Next Time…..
