Another early flight had us packing up and on the way to the airport before any sun of any kind. It is always interesting to see the “very late night” crowd coming home while you are just starting your day.

Three hours later we were in Cairns which was a toasty 31C. (Amy was excited, Daryl not so much). Our room was available early so we made our home for the next 5 days and then set out to the information center. Little did we know how many “visitor information centers” there are around Cairns. Everyone is calling themselves some form of information this or visitor center that. I guess with hundreds and hundreds of reef tours / other tours everyone is trying to get a piece of the pie. We found the actual one though and spent some time going through our options.

We headed back to the hostel and booked a reef tour and a rainforest tour for the upcoming days. Very excited.

The rest of the day we relaxed and walked around part of the town. We went to the “lagoon” area down by the Ocean which is basically a gigantic outdoor swimming pool. (Salt water though). Cairns built it to make up for the fact that there aren’t any beaches right in town. After cooling down for a bit we had some Sushi for dinner and then headed back to the hostel.

The walk back was a little interesting as we ran into thousands of bats flying around and hanging out in trees near the library. Not sure what was going on but it was really cool. That bats were quite large!

Until next time.
